Frequently Asked Questions

We hope the information below will help answer your query, if not Please feel free to drop us a message at info@tictocktherapy.co.uk

Q: Is there a waiting list? We aim to see new clients within 2–4 weeks in most cases, though this varies by service and time of year. The best way to check current availability is to fill in an intake form. We'll always try to accommodate urgent enquiries where possible.

Q: What age groups do you work with? We work with children, young people, and adults of all ages. For CBIT therapy, children are ideally aged 8 and above, though we encourage you to enquire even if your child is younger, as some younger children can access adapted sessions. We also work with adults who have had tics all their life and are looking to manage them for the first time.

Q: What therapy is available for tics? Sarah offers Comprehensive Behavioural Intervention for Tics (CBIT), which includes Habit Reversal Therapy (HRT) and Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) — both clinically proven to reduce tics significantly. She also offers Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, which can help manage the anxiety and stress that often worsen tics. Visit our Tic Therapy page for a full breakdown.

Q: Can you diagnose a tic disorder? We cannot provide formal medical diagnoses. However, we can assess and work with you regardless of whether you have a formal diagnosis, and we can provide a professional report after sessions that may support future diagnosis requests via your GP, paediatrician, or CAMHS.

Q: How do I start therapy or coaching?

Step 1: complete an intake form.

Step 2: We'll invite you to complete an Initial Consultation (a paid, detailed assessment run over zoom).

Step 3: We'll agree a therapy plan together and begin sessions.

There's no pressure and no obligation.

Q: Do you offer in-person sessions? Currently, all of our therapy and coaching sessions are delivered online via Zoom. This means we can support families and individuals anywhere across the world — no travel needed, and no local postcode lottery.

Q: How can I pay for therapy? Sessions can be funded in a variety of ways: self-funded (payment plans available), EHCP funding (ask your school's SENCO), Individual Funding Request via your GP, Access to Work grant (for adults in employment), or via your social worker if one is involved. We're happy to help you explore your options — just ask.

Q: How many sessions will I need? This varies by person and by service. As a guide: CBIT is typically 8–12 sessions, Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is 6–8 sessions, and Neurodiversity Coaching is usually 12–16 sessions. Progress is reviewed regularly and plans are adjusted as needed. You are never locked into a set number.

Q: Can I pay in instalments? Yes. For our blocks of 6, you can spread the cost across 3 instalments.

Q: What is CBIT and does it work? CBIT (Comprehensive Behavioural Intervention for Tics) is the gold-standard behavioural treatment for tic disorders. It is made up of six components, including Habit Reversal Therapy and Exposure Response Prevention. Research shows it can reduce tic severity by up to 40%. It is endorsed by Tourettes Action, the NICE guidelines, and is the same approach used by NHS specialist tic clinics.

TicTock Therapy is run personally by me, Sarah. Most of my day is spent in therapy sessions, clinical assessments, or home educating my children.

Because of this, I’m often unable to answer phone calls. The quickest and most reliable way to reach me is by email, which I check regularly between sessions.

Please email info@tictocktherapy.co.uk and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
